The International Exhibition "Black Music around the World" is to be held in downtown Dakar as part of the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures 2010 (10th – 31th December 2010). This exhibition, a major and unifying event for the Festival, has been designed to honour the epic history of black music and to put Dakar on the map as the African cultural capital of black music.

Dakar

Dakar is a unique place, replete with history and creativity. Dakar is an exceptional territory – both the birthplace and the spearhead of black culture.

This third edition of the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures will be an international cultural event of great stature. We hope the International Exhibition "Black Music around the World" will be a flagship event at World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures.

This exhibition will be the world’s first International Multimedia Space dedicated to black music.

  • An area of over 600m² featuring installations accessible to audiences of all levels of literacy.
  • An exhibition at the cutting edge of technology, attracting audiences from Dakar and from around the world.
  • A flagship event at this year’s World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures 2010.

This exhibition is to be developed in parallel with the Center for Black Music, located in Salvador da Bahia (opening scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011), so as to forge and strengthen links between Africa and South America, between Senegal and Brazil.
